ABOUT ANLCA NATIONAL BODY

The Association of Nigeria Customs Licensed Agents is the oldest and biggest body of clearing and forwarding practitioners in Nigeria. The primary role of the national executive body is to promote growth, unity and stability of the association. The national body also advocates and promotes member growth through the various chapters that make up the national body.

They provide responsive leadership and guide the chapter executives through creating strategic policy guidelines. With overall guidance coming from the Board of Trustees, the national executives , operating through the various zonal and chapter executives promotes the activities of freight forwarders in Nigeria.

CURRENT NATIONAL EXECUTIVE

The current national executives duly elected assume office on 14/04/2018 under the leadership of Hon. Iju Anthony Nwabunike. He was elected along with other twelve (11) National and zonal executives for a four year tenure. His vision is to transform ANLCA by bequeathing a lasting structure devoid of individualistic trait into a highly respected trade association where members will enjoy the economic benefits of association. As a TEAM player, he says: Together Everyone Achieves More.

ABOUT ANLCA

The Association is a non-profit organization Governed and administered (unless re-elected) by National Executive Committee (N.E.C.O.M), supported by the Chapter Executive Committee (C.E.C.) at the grassroots or main customs ports/chapters level, elected by general chapter members for a three (3) year tenure and Nine (9) equal registered Boards Of Trustees Members (B.O.T). The trustees are highly experienced, seasoned entrepreneurs and managers from member customs brokers/freight forwarding companies, who are nominated and voted by Annual General Meeting (AGM), convention resolutions for a tenure of six (6) years. Established in 1954, under the ILLITERATE PROTECTION ACT CAP. 83 of 1954 with certificate number 38799 of 30TH SEPTEMBER, 1954. we are the first and the oldest licensed customs clearing agency in the country operating from the first and the oldest port in Nigeria.

PURPOSE:

We are the recognized voice for all the corporate companies freight forwarders operating in and around Ports complex where we represent over thousands of customs Brockers and freight forwarders. It is imperative that a group with such large members should have a common voice to agitate for its growth.

ANLCA liaises closely with many government agents and extra-ministerial departments, port terminal operators, inspection agents appointed by government, shipping agencies and shipping lines that are associated with international trade protocols. Such include the Nigeria customs, NAFDAC, Produce department for export control of perishable products, cargo handling and security agencies.

The Association serves to recommend practical and effective responses to the many challenges facing its members, especially from the government lead security agent at the ports – Nigeria custom service, other critical stake holders and general trading communities. This would be nearly impossible to achieve by individual companies.

The Association helps members’ secure consistent and effective representation on forums which influence their businesses, such as the legislation of laws that positively affects them. Freight forwarding has an international character and as such we work closely with other freight forwarding associations in several countries around the world.

OBJECTIVES:

Objectives are:

• To unite the freight forwarding industry worldwide
• To represent, promote and protect the interests of the industry by participating as advisors or experts in meetings of international bodies dealing with transportation
• To familiarise trade and industry and the public at large with the services rendered by freight forwarders through the dissemination of information, distribution of publications, etc.
• To improve the quality of services rendered by freight forwarders by developing and promoting uniform forwarding documents, standard trading conditions, etc.
• To assist with vocational training for freight forwarders, liability insurance problems, tools for electronic commerce including electronic data interchange (EDI) and barcode and the new biometric registration exercise going on.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF ANLCA:

The Association aims to achieve the following set objectives:

• Service Standards-To establish performance benchmarks and to create service delivery standards that must be adhered to by its members.
• Dispute Resolution - Development of a structured dispute resolution mechanism i.e. system of classification of offences, based on severity, frequency and corresponding sanctions.
• Interest Actions - Take such action as may be reasonable and achievable to advance the interests of members.
• Membership Value Delivered - Ensure that members of the Association receive value through membership
• Industry Skill Development - Raise the level of industry skills development through regular training and mandatory training programs designed by the association for its members
• Networking - Improve the level of networking at senior levels with Government, its agencies operating at the ports, port service providers, and other organisations which interface with the freight forwarding and customs clearing industry.
• Negative Issues - Deal with issues which are adversely affecting Government's policy such as fraud, improper documentation, clearing delays etc .
• Relationship Building - Encourage more members to participate in the affairs of the Association and increase its membership so as to remain relevant in the National body.
